The Alliance St. Agnes track teams began their season with a pair of meets with the Crusaders competing in Burns on Saturday and in Bayard on Monday. Alliance took advantage of some great weathering and started the year with some great performances.
On Saturday in Burns, the Lady Crusaders compiled 70 points, which was good for third overall. Leading the charge was Kenna Montes who struck gold in both the long jump and shot. Morgan LeMunyan was also a gold medalist, winning the 800. The Crusaders boys finished with 20 points and ended in tenth place overall. Hurdler Trell Shrewsbury took first in the 200 hurdles with a time of 32.0. At Bayard, Montes was also a double gold winner, once again capturing first in the shot and long jump. Montes' leap of 15'5 was a new school record. St. Agnes scored 22 points and finished 10th overall.
"Two really nice days to compete and the kids gave it their all!! The coaches are seeing a lot of good things and hope we can get better at each meet. Both meets had some really good competitors so any places we could get were great. Ourboys had 8 of our 17 members out due to injuries and sickness at Bayard and were unableto score any points but hopefully for better results down the road. The girls scoring 70 points at Burns was super to see," said SAA Head Track Coach Mark Glesinger.
Next action for the Crusaders will be Saturday at Gering.
