Panhandle Region Sends Five Teams to State

It was down to the wire for the Alliance boys as they claimed a one-point victory over Mount Michael Benedictine, punching their ticket to the state tournament in Lincoln.

Alliance is one of five teams from the Panhandle region to qualify for the state tournament, with action kicking off on March 7.

Alliance is ranked seventh in Class B, bringing to state a season record of 19-6. In the first round, the Bulldogs are set to take on the second ranked Aurora. Aurora brings with it a season record of 25-1. Tipoff is set for 8:45 p.m. (C.T.) on Thursday at the Devaney Center.

Also in Class B, the eighth ranked team, Scottsbluff, will face off against the number one team, Pius X, a team that entered the competition with a 24-2 season record. Scottsbluff brings with them a record of 14-10. Tipoff in the matchup is set for March 7 at 9 a.m. (C.T.) at the Pinacle Bank Arena.

In Class C1 action, the Ogallala Indians are ranked as the top team, with an undefeated season record. They will face off against Milford in the first round, which is the eighth ranked team, with a record of 21-5. Action is set to take place at the Devaney Center at 2 p.m. (C.T.) on March 7.

In Class C2, Bridgeport, the team that earned the second-place ranking, will take on seventh ranked Ponca at Lincoln Northeast, with tipoff set for 3:45 p.m. (C.T.) on March 7. Bridgeport ended their season with a record of 23-2, and Ponca enters the matchup with a record of 22-4.

In Class D1, third ranked Paxton enters the action with a record of 23-1. They will take on Wauneta-Palisade in the first round at Lincoln East on March 7 at 3:45 p.m. Wauneta-Palisade enters into the matchup with a record of 20-5.
