With heavy snow blanketing the region just days earlier, the fate of the 2019 Chadron State College Indoor Track Meet was in question. The meet commenced, seeing fewer teams making the trek to Chadron.

A total of seven teams took part in the meet, nearly half the normal number, including Hemingford, Scottsbluff and Gering.

Head track Coach for Hemingford, Randy Hiemstra, was glad that the meet was still a go, giving the athletes a chance to test their abilities.

“We were really happy the meet was still on and our kids who were available had a chance to compete. Obviously, the weather has not cooperated much so far and we have had to make due with limited resources as far as getting our work outs in, so just to have a chance to compete against other schools in a track and field setting was great,” said Hiemstra.

With athletes from Gering and Scottsbluff snatching up eight first place finishes, Hemingford was up against stiff competition, though, Hiemstra noted, they refused to back down.

“Our kids competed hard like they always do and the results of our performances allow us as coaches and athletes to see where we are at this point of the season. We will use this info and data to apply to our work outs moving forward,” Hiemstra said.
