May is always a busy month in general. It can’t be helped, though. It’s usually around this time that we can comfortably say, with certainty, that there won’t be any more snow until after summer. Here are some of the things going on this weekend:
The Annual Greenhouse Fundraiser hosted by the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and School started yesterday. If you missed it, then have no worries. You can still visit them on 1024 Box Butte Ave from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today as well.
The Pikes Peak Chapter of the Ninety-Nines is hosting a Fly-In to visit Carhenge from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at the Alliance Municipal Airport. The group is based in Colorado to connect female aviators from a variety of backgrounds, according to their Facebook page.
At 6 a.m. on Sunday, Highland Park will be taking some of their residents and staff for Hot Air Balloon rides. It won’t be open to the public (aside from observing and attending), but it will be a sight to see.
The Eagle’s Club will be celebrating Mother’s Day by hosting a breakfast. The all-you-can-eat event begins at 8 a.m. The cost will be $8 for seniors (65 or older), $9 for anyone 12 and older, $7 for children ages 5 to 11 and free for anyone younger.
What better gift for mothers than to see their children graduating high school? Alliance High School and Hemingford High School will both graduate at 2 p.m. on Sunday. AHS is scheduled to have their ceremony at the Bulldog Stadium, though will move the event to their high school gym if the weather changes. HHS is scheduled to have their ceremony at their high school gym.
Emotions will be running high on Sunday (and for good reason!) It’s always bittersweet seeing the senior class moving forward in their lives. It’s always a privilege for me to take pictures or write stories about any of them. I think I can safely speak for the rest of the staff in that they feel the same way.
To those graduating: this is not the end, but just the beginning. Whether you’re leaving elementary to middle school or high school to college, remember the accomplishments that rewarded your hard work and be grateful for the things you have. With every new beginning are some hard times waiting for you. Approach them as an opportunity to learn and grow and I promise that there will be nothing you can’t achieve. Yeah, it’s a little cheesy, but I mean it from the bottom (or top?) of my heart. #GetCheezy
