This year went by pretty fast, wouldn’t you agree? There’s been a lot that’s happened. We saw a transition of power with a new president and administration, the eclipse has come and gone, and (the most memorable for me) I got married! This is the last weekend before the new year arrives and I have the honor of working it, being the 25th weekend that I’ve worked in total since I started in August of 2016.

Whether it serves as a forecast for your luck in the upcoming year or if you’re looking to change it to end your luck on a good note, the Eagles is hosting Casino Night to celebrate the ringing in of the new year. The event begins at 7 p.m. and costs $20 to play, receiving $2,000 in play money for you to gamble away or to rake in twice, no three times, no four times the amount! I could only be so lucky.

I admit that I’m not aware of their past events, but it seems they’ve gone to great lengths in making it feel like a bustling casino. There’s even going to be cocktail waitresses so you won’t have to get up to get your drink; you can just keep playing through until you lose it all or win big.

Check out the Haven on The Bricks at 508 Box Butte for a variety of games on New Year’s Eve night as well. The weather is supposed to be the coldest day of the year on Sunday, so make sure to dress warm and prepare for some biting wind, to say the least.

This year has really been quite a ride for me. I’ve had my fair share of trials and tribulations to endure, but also a load of wonderful memories! I’ve seen some of my peers get promoted and achieve (even if just a portion) of their dreams and desires, knowing the struggles we’ve all had to go through to get there. There are new adventures that await me just beyond the weekend and changes that have been long overdue for me.

I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing some of Alliance’s happiest moments as well as the more depressing ones. I’ve had the honor of sharing my own happiness with you and overcoming the many challenges that comes just before it. Stay warm this weekend, drive carefully, make good choices, and keep safe. I’ll see you all on the other side!
