Some time between 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday morning, Nov. 1-2, one or more individuals gained access to the Alliance Recycling Center by forcible means — they broke into our shop. Gone: one flashlight, one set of hearing protection.
I am not sure. Why not, I guess.
The people responsible targeted a couple nearby buildings as well. All had items that could have easily been taken. The only one I really know about is the space rented by Keep Alliance Beautiful. Alliance Police officers came to investigate. Photos taken, questions asked. No charges filed, no arrests as of this writing.
So . . . why?
KAB has few enemies. We help people help the planet. We are a not-for-profit organization making no money off the business. Grants and donations pay the majority of the bills.
We are thankful for no damage other than our door. No vandalism. No major theft.
Break-ins, however, are not welcome. If you want to have a spare box or a few newspapers they are yours. Advice is always free for the asking. We love to help.
Tips about what happened that weekend are welcome as well. Call the Alliance Police Department and let them know.
Work goes on Monday through Friday. The event made for good conversation — briefly. Now we move on. Hope some of you made it to last week’s open house. I’m sure we were glad to see you.
Take care, and remember to reduce, reuse and recycle!
