James (Jim) Wegner, 84, of Alliance, NE passed away peacefully at home during the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 13th.  He was born January 2nd, 1935 to Lawrence and Alice (Snyder) Wegner in Palmer, NE. 

On November 27, 1954 at Palmer, NE he was united in marriage to Joanne Kay Aschwege.  Jim joined the Navy in October 1952 and arrived home December of 1955 to meet his first daughter Kathy who was born while he was serving in the Mediterranean.  After release from the Navy, Jim and Jody moved to Omaha, NE.  Jim attended business school and then went to work for HP Smith Motors in Omaha.  He made the car business his life, working for H P Smith for 15 years until purchasing the GM dealership in Alliance, Ne, Wegner Motors. Jim was a respected business man in Alliance for 20 years.  He loved the car business and the many great people he dealt with and many who became his lifelong friends. 

Jim is remembered by his family as a kind, gentle man who always had a twinkle in his eye.  He was ornery and loved to tease and joke with his many grandkids and great grandchildren, who all adored him.  Jim loved to boat and fish and spent many weekends at the lake and made great memories with dear friends and family. 

Jim is survived by his loving wife Jody.  He is also survived by daughters Kathy (Chris) Thompson of Alliance, Jill (Kent) Green of Alliance, Jenny (Jerry) Dillon of Discovery Bay, CA, and son Ryan Wegner of Denver.  He is also survived by grandchildren Chad (Sarah) Thompson, Joe (Kathleen) Thompson, Jeff (Emily) Thompson, Seth Thompson, Trevor Thompson, Melissa (Julian) Wozniak, Andy (Jessica) Wegner, Case Wegner, Cody (Kayla) Green, Ali Green, Emily Green, Patrick (Paige) Laing, Katie Dillon, Kenzie Dillon, and Dyllin Wegner, 14 great grandchildren.  Jim was preceded in death by son Dave Wegner, granddaughter Lindsey Green, and grandson Cale Wegner, and his beloved best friend and dog Jake. 

Funeral service is Monday, November 18th, at 10:30a.m. at Bates-Gould Chapel with Rev Tim Stadem officiating. There will be a gathering after funeral service at Westside Events Center.  Burial will be held Tuesday at the Alliance Cemetery at 2 p.m.  Visitation will be Sunday, 1-5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Pillars in the Park, Paws, or VFW all of Alliance.
