Sheldon Presented Quilt of Valor

Vietnam War Veteran Donald Joel Sheldon was presented with a Quilt of Valor at the Alliance VFW on July 7, 2020. His quilt was pieced and bound by Carol Bauer and quilted by Suzanne Walker.

He enlisted in the US Army and began his military career on Oct. 30, 1967 at Denver, CO.

Don’s military occupational specialty was 45L20, Firearm and Artillery Repairman. He served overseas for one year, ten months and seven days with the 4th Infantry Division in Vietnam from May 8, 1968 to Dec. 17, 1969.

The 4th Infantry Division deployed to Vietnam in October 1966, where they battled with bravery in the Northern and Central Highlands returning to the United States in 1970.

On Sept. 5, 1970 while attached to Headquarters Company 3rd Battalion, USAOC & S, 1st US Army, he was released from active duty to attend schooling.

Medals and Awards included: The M-14 Marksman Rifle Badge, The M-16 Expert Rifle Badge, The National Defense Service Medal, The Army Good Conduct Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal W/One Silver & One Bronze Service Star, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Overseas Bars, & Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation W/Palm Device.

After serving his obligation in the United States Army Reserves, Don received his certification of Honorable Discharge on Oct. 29,1973.
