ANGORA — rollover accident on Friday morning claimed the life of a passenger in the vehicle after being ejected.
Box Butte County Sheriff Tammy Mowry said the driver of the vehicle, Albert L. Liptrap, of Whitman, was traveling too fast as he and his wife Margie K. Liptrap, 72, were traveling westbound on Highway 2.
“There was black ice, and the vehicle was traveling too fast for conditions. It had its cruise control on, which is hazardous on a foggy day because if there’s fog, there’s ice. The vehicle was traveling westbound into Alliance and lost control on a curve,” said Mowry.
The vehicle rolled multiple times before ultimately coming to rest in the south ditch. Margie, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died from the injuries sustained in the crash.
Mowry said Albert was transported to the hospital from the scene of the wreck.
