Pillars County Carnival Sees Success

Alliance Times-Herald

The Pillars for the Park Country Carnival was hosted on Saturday afternoon at the Wells Ranch southeast of Alliance. A fun day of vendors, barque served up by Nebraska Matt’s, kids games, a petting zoo, pony and hay rack rides, cast iron cooking, chicken bingo, a photo booth, music from St. John’s brass, a barn dance, with music from local band, “Crossbell”, and much more was enjoyed by well over a hundred community members.

The carnival raised over $1,400 to assist with the cost of someday restoring the pillars and sunken gardens in central park. Each member of the Alliance Pillars for the Park board is tasked with organizing a fundraiser to help support the pillars fund, the country carnival was organized by Reed Dye of Alliance, with support of community members and local businesses.

I set out to plan a fun day for families back in February and show off our city spirit and community pride because I truly believe I live in a great community. I believe yesterday I proved what can be done when a community comes together. People came out in 95 plus temperatures with their kids to prove families still know how to have fun without their phones or expensive toys. I can't express how proud I am of the community of Alliance. Thanks for supporting the Pillars in the Park and all our fundraisers over the last few years. We hope yesterday gave a little back to our wonderful supporters. If I tried to list them all I would forget someone and feel terrible. Needless to say my heart is full and thank you one and all you are Super Stars in my book. The Wells family were fabulous hosts,” stated Reed Dye, board member and lead organizer of the Pillars for the Park Country Carnival.

Efforts to restore the sunken gardens began in June of 2017, and so far just over $124,000 has been raised in total in support of the Pillars for the Park project. At this time there are just a few pillars and arbors left to be sponsored. The group has a Facebook page, Alliance Pillars for the Park!, that provides up to date information on just how much has been donated so far. A public meeting with contractor Baker and Associates is scheduled for July 25th to discuss the cost of the restoration.
