Summer Reading Fun at the Alliance Public Library

The Alliance Public Library has several programs scheduled for the next two weeks for the summer reading program. On Wednesday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m. children entering first through sixth grades are invited to learn about nocturnal animals. The educator from the Riverside Discovery Center in Scottsbluff will visit with Ralph the opossum to teach about animals who are awake with the moon and the stars. The program is in the community rooms.

Thursday, June 6, 7:30 p.m. is the Family Stargazing Party (weather permitting). This event is open to all ages and will be in the library rose garden. Participants can use the gate at the back of the library and are invited to bring their own lawn chairs. While waiting for the sun to set, the Main Street Players will perform a short play “Race to the Moon,” and we will play space trivia.

You are invited to bring your own telescope or binoculars or use one provided by Craig and Bessie Bishop, who will be on hand to help participants learn how to use the telescopes and orient them to the night sky.

We are still looking for a few middle school and high school students to participate in the Reader’s Theater Performance on June 12, at 2:00 p.m. We will have 2 rehearsals at 1:00 p.m. on June 11 and 12. Performers will read from scripts so no memorization is required. Please call (308)762-1387 or stop by the library to sign up to be a performer. The performance is open to students entering first through sixth grades.

For more information, please contact Elaine Bleisch at the Alliance Public Library, (308) 762-1387.
