During the boys basketball game on Friday, four Alliance coaches were recognized for receiving the Western Conference Coach of the Year awards. Those coaches include Steve Gullion, Jessica Kaiser, Steve Nelson and Sandra Pilfold.
Gullion received the award for 2018-19 Western Conference Middle School Male Coach of the Year. Throughout his middle-school coaching career, Gullion coached middle school football for four years and boys basketball for nine years.
Gullion was recognized for his positive relationships with athletes and his ability to motivate them to do their best.
Kaiser received the award for the 2018-19 Western Conference Head Female Coach of the year. In her second year as head volleyball coach, she helped set the record for most wins in program history, ending the season with a 29-6 record.
Kaiser was recognized for the hours she spends away from the court, working to improve the program as a whole, and her care for her athletes and Alliance High School students.
Nelson received the award for the 2018-19 Western Conference Assistant Male Coach of the Year. Throughout his career, he worked with the football program for 29 years, and, as of last track season, has coached for 45 years as either a head or assistant coach.
Nelson was recognized for his knowledge and expertise in the pole vault, and the passion and care he has for coaching.
Pilfold received the 2018-19 Western Conference Longevity Award for her more-than 50 years of service. She began her teaching and coaching career in 1968 and served as the head volleyball coach for 23 years, amassing 291 wins, and leading the team to three state tournament appearances. She has also coached basketball and track.
She was recognized for her experience and knowledge that has helped the Bulldogs throughout the years.
