The Alliance Times-Herald is spearheading an effort to organize a community-wide garage sale the weekend of June 12-14.
Design and Circulation Director Kathryn Kellar developed the idea to organize a community-wide garage sale weekend after seeing other communities in the state host successful community-wide garage sales.
“When I worked at the Keith County News, I would travel to Grant for their community-wide garage sale just to see what I could find,” said Kellar. “The event attracted a lot of people every year, and was a big help to the local economy. I thought, why can’t we have something like that here?”
Kellar and other staff members at the Alliance Times-Herald have been reaching out to officials at the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Alliance to lay the foundations for the event.
The Alliance Times-Herald will publish a map prior to the weekend, which will be available for people to plan to shop the area garage sales. People are invited to get their spot on the map by stopping by the Alliance Times-Herald, or calling the office at 308-762-3060.
“We are planning for a lot of people to travel to Alliance to look for treasures at the community wide garage sale and to take advantage of the sales,” Kellar said. “So, we are encouraging people organizing garage sales to run the notice with the Alliance Times-Herald and to get their spot on the official community-wide garage sale map.”
More details about the event will be released as the event approaches, so the Alliance Times-Herald encourages people to stay tuned, and continue reading their local, home-town newspaper.
