City Seeks Grant for Sunken Gardens Renovation


At a meeting earlier this month, the Alliance City Council approved a resolutionauthorizing the city of Alliance to submit a grant application to help fund therenovationof the Alliance Sunken Gardens.

The total amount of the grant the city is seeking is $15,000, coming from the Civic and Community Center Financing Fund. The grant is administered by the Nebraska Department of Development.

The grant is a 1:1 match grant, with the matching funds coming from the Pillars for the Park group. If the grant is awarded to Alliance, the funds will be used to pay for the engineering and design costs of the project. Deputy City Manager Jeff Sprock is in charge of writing the grant. The Council voted unanimously to approve the resolution.

Also during its meeting on Feb. 5, the council approved the purchase of Zuercher CAD/RMS/Mobile Software for the Alliance Police Department in the amount of $197,722. The cost covers the purchase of all required hardware and software. To offset the cost, the city was able to use the wireless E911 set-aside funding, shaving off $45,630 from the cost. The total price of the software, after using the E911 funding was $152,092.
