Box Butte County Fair Begins
The 2020 Box Butte County Fair is underway, with the open poultry show and Gymkhana already wrapped up over the weekend.
A coloring contest is also being hosted by the Box Butte County Fair, with entries due by July 29. People may contact the fair office at 308-487-5223 for more information.
On July 30, the 4-H Public Style Review and Music Contest will kick off at 7 p.m.
On Aug. 1, the 4-H Horse Show is set to take place at 8 a.m.
On Aug. 2, the 4-H Dog Show will begin at 11 a.m. and the 4-H Cat Show will start at 1 p.m.
Open Class (CDEGH) entries will be accepted on Monday, Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Events on Aug. 4 will kick off with the Clover Kids Pet Parade at 3 p.m., followed by Family Fun Night from 6-9 p.m. The Junior Rodeo will begin at 6:30 p.m., with registration starting at 6 p.m.
On Aug. 5, Open Class (BKF) entries will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 4-H Poultry Show will begin at 1 p.m. Waterhole #9 will be open from 1 p.m.-12 a.m. The Hops and Berries Contest will take place at 2 p.m., with entry beginning at 1 p.m. The 4-H Rabbit Show will take place at 4 p.m. and the Fair Queen Contest will take place at 8 p.m.
On Aug. 6, the 4-H Swine Show will kick off the day’s events at 8 a.m., with all 4-H exhibits openings at 9 a.m., and commercial exhibits open from 12-8 p.m. The 4-H Goat Show will take place at 1 p.m. Waterhole #9 will be open from 1 p.m.-12 a.m. The 4-H Small Animal Round Robin will take place at 5:30 p.m. Chore Relays are set to start at 7 p.m.
On Aug. 7, the 4-H Dairy Cow and Dairy Goat Show will begin at 8 a.m., and the 4-H Beef Show will start at 9 a.m. The 4-H Exhibits and commercial exhibits will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Oldtimers’ Picnic is set to take place at 12 p.m. The 4-H Sheep Show will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by the 4-H Cookie Jar and Auction at 4 p.m. Cookie jars will be sold at the event with no cookies in them, to follow health guidelines. Cakes will be sold as a premium sale, with buyers not being able to take the cake after the auction. Heartland Pulling Street Stock will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the 4-H Large Animal Round Robin will begin at 7 p.m. The Truck and Tractor Pull will start at 7:30 p.m., followed by the teen dance at 9 p.m.
On Aug. 8, the 5K Memorial Run/Walk will kick off the day’s events at 7:30 a.m., with registration open from 6:45 a.m.-7:15 a.m. The parade will start at 10 a.m., with registration taking place from 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m. 4-H Exhibits and Commercial Exhibits will be open from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. The Livestock Buyers BBQ will run from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., with the 4-H and FFA Livestock Sale beginning at 12:30 p.m. The auction will be livestreamed, and phone bids will be accepted. Waterhole #9 will be open from 1 p.m.-12 a.m. The Livestock Judging Contest will take place at 4 p.m., followed by the 4-H Music Contest at 4:30 p.m. Ned Ledoux will perform a concert at 8 p.m., with a country dance taking place at 9 p.m.
On Aug. 9, a Worship Service is set for 9 a.m. All exhibits will be released from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. The Demolition Derby will close out the 2020 Box Butte County Fair at 1 p.m.
Box Butte County Fair Manager Sarah Lilley said the National Wild Turkey Federation will be at the fair’s Midway. They are searching for more vendors for the commercial building and food court. People can find the applications on the Box Butte County Fair website.
Lilley noted that while the fair will not be able to provide masks for people to wear, they encourage people to wear them if it will help people feel safer.
Ashley Fenning, Extension Assistant 4-H, noted that sanitation stations will be available on the fairgrounds, with officials asking people to follow social distancing guidelines and health measures.
