Snow covers the parking lot at the Alliance Shopko a day after the company included the location on its latest list, posted yesterday (Feb. 6) detailing the restructuring retailer's latest closings. According to the list on the company's website the Alliance store is set to close May 5.
The corporate-level decision comes as part of Phase 5 of the company's liquidation phase. Gordon and Ogallala stores closed Dec. 22, 2018. Kimball is set to close March 2. There are over 15 stores in Nebraska that have shut their doors or have been announced to close by this spring.
In a news release sent out in January, CEO Russ Steinhorst said, "This decision is a difficult, but necessary one. In a challenging retail environment, we have had to make some very tough choices, but we are confident that by operating a smaller and more focused store footprint, we will be able to build a stronger Shopko that will better serve our customers, vendors, employees and other stakeholders through this process."
The Alliance location is one of 250 stores around the nation that the company has closed or is in the process of liquidating.
