Alliance, NE – During the morning of May 4, 2018, the Alliance Police Department received three reports of burglary and attempted burglary of area businesses. Alliance Zesto, Sturdevant’s Auto Parts, and Fizzy’s Dine In & Drive Up were all impacted. Investigations of these crimes is ongoing. The Times-Herald attempted to contact the store owners of the break-ins and was able to speak with Sturdevant’s Store Manager Derald Smith, though wasn’t able to give out too much information. Smith stated that it was the first time the store had a break-in throughout the 25 or more years that he’s been there, adding, “I got here a little after six this morning and the glass door on the east side of the building was completely shattered with glass all over on the inside. There was stuff taken, but I can’t get into that because of the investigation with the police.”
Tammy Coward, owner of Zesto, said that they were fortunate nothing was stolen from Zesto, though there was some damage to their doors, registers and safes. Coward expressed that the burglars seemed to be after money as there were other things they could have taken, but nothing was stolen. Smith and Coward expressed separately that security would be enhanced. Whitney Baldwin, owner of Fizzy's, declined to comment.
