A two vehicle accident on the morning of March 17 sent two people to the hospital to be treated for injuries.
Deputy Marcus Hjersman, with the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office said two vehicles were southbound on Highway 87. Kade Pfeiffer, who was driving a Chevrolet Silverado, was turning east onto Logan Road. John Jacobo, who was driving a Kenworth semi, failed to see the turn signal and attempted to pass.
“He saw the turn signal too late, and collided when the truck attempted to turn and the semi attempted to pass it,” said Hjersman. “The semi lost control of the vehicle and went over. Jacobo was transported to the hospital by EMS and Kade Pfeiffer was later transported by a family member. No major injuries were reported.”
Hjersman said both vehicles were totaled in the wreck. He noted that between $3,000 and $4,000 of corn was lost, though an attempt was made to recover some of it.
Highway 87 was shutdown while officials cleared the scene: once when the trailer was being uprighted, the traffic was limited to one lane. The Nebraska State Patrol assisted with traffic control.
